Over on physorg there's an interesting article, and even more interesting discussion going on about punishment vs. reward. I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to read a bit, especially since at least one SEDhead around here as expressed an interest in Game Theory, and this (The Nash equilibrium, and Prisoner dilemma to some extent) is core game theory.
